This is the branch of a fast growing nitrogen fixing tree, the one you want to have around when starting a permaculture “foodforest” in the wet and cooler climate zones of this planet. Even here in mediterranean Portugal this tree is going for it! It is able to fix nitrogen for itself… but also for plants growing nearby…
Happily there are many nitrogen fixing species…and not only trees! and many of them are edibe, or perform other useful functions. So if you have decided to start up your own edible landscape, think about these sunloving pioneers first! Nitrogen is one of the most important ingredients to grow healthy plants.
